The first two lines of this submission by TM Olivia from New York are a masterstroke. TM Olivia here confesses that she uses filler words and so do most of the club members. With such an admission right up front, your audience is bound to sit up and listen to you. Read her full script below.
RELATED: How to do the role of ah counter?

I have filler words in my speeches. Every time I do table topics or try to phrase my evaluations in a better way, inevitably I go ah, umm you know, like etc. Like it or not but so do most of you. But once you accept this shortcoming, we here in Toastmasters can help you overcome it. That’s because in every session of Toastmasters, we have an Ah Counter whose role is to keep a count of all such words you use while you speak. A report of this is presented at the end so that you know the words you use and make efforts to get rid of them. So I will see you again with my report towards the end of the meeting.
