We loved this script for the role of Ah Counter from TM John. John managed to successfully demonstrate how filler words can ruin the most iconic speeches. Have a look at his submission below.

I have a dream umm that one day this nation will rise up and umm live out the true meaning of its creed, “we hold these truths ahh to be self evident, that all men are created equal”
I am sure all of you recognize these iconic words uttered in a rather non iconic fashion by me. But imagine if Martin Luther King uttered them in the exact same manner. Would his speech have created the same impact? Probably not.
That’s what filler words can do to your speeches. Doesn’t matter how powerful your story or the underlying emotions are, filler words dilute the impact they can create.
In Toastmasters, we recognise this. Therefore every meeting has an Ah counter whose role is to keep a track of all filler words used in the meeting such as ah, umm, like, you know, actually etc. Towards the end of the meeting, I will present this report so that you may work on them.
