All of us have been in a gathering where an uncle tells a joke and laughs uncontrollably while doing so. His own laugh hijacks the humor out of the joke. Well, your filler words can have an identical impact. When you use words such as ah, umm, err, you know actually etc. it diverts your audience’s attention and hijacks your speech’s message. As the Ah counter, I will note all such filler words and pauses used by the speakers in the meeting today. I will come back with my report towards the end of the meeting.
