Do you want to put some glam and fame to your theme? TM Shweta from Ahemdabad has just the theme for you. TM Shweta discusses some good and some not so good aspects of being a celebrity in this theme. Have a look.
LIFE OF A CELEBRITY
Most people would give anything to live the life of a celebrity. The glamour, the parties and constant admiration of millions of people does have a certain appeal to it. It looks like money is always flowing and life is one big celebration. No wonder youths in every generation aspire to be one amongst them.
But does everything that glow really is gold? While things appear so rosy from afar, is the reality up close identical? Most grown-ups know better. The life of a celebrity is under constant vigil. Media is waiting for the one mistake that any human can do so that they have the spicy material for their breaking news. In fact, media is no longer in the front seat in this race. Too often, it’s Twitter and Facebook that make a mountain out of what is only a mole. Think about it like this – a drunk you and me vomiting in the parking lot does not catch the fancy of even stray dogs but a celebrity would end up in the front pages of the newspaper the next day and in your mobile screen the same evening.
It is said that there is a price you pay for everything in life. Perhaps that is the price of being a celebrity.
Well if any of us do happen to become a celebrity in our lifetime, luckily we have one aspect sorted – public speaking. Being a Toastmaster, witty replies to media questions and award winning speeches should be a cakewalk. On that note, let me tell you how a Toastmasters meeting functions. Every Toastmasters meeting is divided into three parts. The first part is the Prepared Speech section where our members prepare a 5 to 7 minute speech in advance, get it mentored and deliver the same. The second part is the fun and exciting Table Topic Session where anyone can speak for 1 to 2 minutes on a topic given by our Table Topic Master. And the last part is the evaluation session where our General Evaluator will give a comprehensive report on the entire meeting. Let me invite our General Evaluator for the day TM Name.
Once the GE is done explaining his role, invite the Prepared Speakers. After this session, continue with the theme as under.
It is said that success is relative because the more success you have the more relatives you have. And celebrities have crazy number of relatives. To you and me, having a close group of friends and family is a blessing. It means we have people we can count on. However, to a celebrity, identifying the true relatives in their large circle is a challenge. Fame and success brings with them a large group of pseudo friends – people who are attracted by their selfish motives and greed. To a celebrity, this poses dual challenge – the risk of being called a snob for snubbing them and being taken advantage of by catering to them. Too often, celebrities who threw a party for hundreds of their friends to celebrate their success do not have a single of them during a financial distress.
But for now, our next session might put you into distress because it’s time for impromptu speaking. Please help me welcome our Table Topic Master for the day TM Name.
Once the Table Topic Session is over, continue with the theme as under.
Imagine if everything you said or did was stored in the internet for ever, or being photographed dozens of time every day without your permission. The constitution of every country strives to provide its citizen the right to Privacy but this seems like deprivation of the very essence of Privacy, right? Sadly, this is a trade that every celebrity makes in exchange for the fame. Trip to the shopping mall, eating in a restaurant or even a visit to the park with kids is a luxury celebrities cannot afford, which makes their kids a casualty of their career. It is said “Be careful of what you wish for. You might just get it.” To a youth wishing for the celebrity fame, getting it might mean compromising on these aspects in life, not just for themselves but for their family too.
It’s time now for the evaluation session. Please help me welcome the General Evaluator for the day TM Name.
Once the evaluation session is over, conclude the theme as under.
Fellow Toastmasters, the life of a celebrity is a farrago of “starry” and “scary” in equal parts. The fame, money and fan following does give it a romantic appeal that may induce you to flirt with the idea. But it is important to remember that roses come with their thorns. Sometimes a simple walk in the beach or a dinner with a group of friends sans any interference is all that the heart desires.
However if awards are the one aspect of celebrity life that you desire, let me take care of that one right now. Because it’s time now for the awards
